6 superfood home made granola

6 superfood home made granola
  • Start the day right with this superfood rich, home made granola. It contains 6 amazing superfoods to help you perform at your best.

Store-bought cereals and granolas are packed with extra additives such as refined sugar, preservatives and are highly processed. Yet, they are often advertised as ‘healthy’.

In order to pack as much nutrition into the most important meal of the day, why don’t you skip the store-bought box and switch to home made granola!

Superfood #1 – Oats

Oats are rich in prebiotic fibre, meaning it feeds your gut microbes. A healthy microbiome is essential to overall health and wellbeing and eating oats is one of the best ways to keep your gut healthy. Oats are also loaded with antioxidants!

Superfood #2 – Hemp hearts

Hemp hearts (seeds) are yet to become mainstream in Australia, but there is no doubt they will become a staple in everyone’s pantry. Hemp hearts are full of protein and good fats. The fatty acid profile contains omega 3:6 in the correct ratio needed by our body.

The right amount of omega 3 can help fight inflammation and combat anxiety. Check out our blog 4 scientifically proven benefits of omega 3.

Superfood #3 – Nuts

Walnuts, pecans, peanuts, cashews….no matter which nut they all have high protein and good fats in common. Nuts also contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. A handful of mixed nuts should form part of your daily diet.

Superfood #4 – Coconut oil

Coconut oil is high in medium-chain triclycerides, a type of fat that your body metabolizes differently than most other fats and is responsible for many of the health benefits of coconut oil. It is good to eat a wide variety of fats to ensure your body’s needs are covered.

Superfood #5 – Honey

Like oats, honey is a prebiotic, meaning it feeds your gut microbes. It is also antibacterial, can help relieve cough and cold symptoms, and can aid in rehydration after a bout of the runs. Make sure your honey is raw and unprocessed. Many mass produced brands blend syrups with highly pasteurised honey, meaning not only is the flavour bad, the goodness has all been destroyed too.

Superfood #6 – Cinnamon

Cinnamon contains Beta-caryophyllene, a terpene which can activate the CB2 receptors in the body and keep it in balance. It also contains large amounts of highly potent polyphenol antioxidants, can reduce inflammation, have anti-diabetic effects, fight bacterial and fungal infections, and fight cancer.
